According to a letter from the Greater Awyu Tribe to the Boven Digoel Regency Customary Council (LMA), the planned project is situated within the territory of Anggai Village, Jair District, Boven Digoel Regency, as well as six other districts in the area.

The Awyu Tribe states that this rejection serves as a means for the indigenous community to voice its aspirations in order to protect its land, forests, environment, sources of livelihood, identity, culture, and generational rights.

They affirm that the Awyu Tribe continues to respect the government and national development. However, development must not extinguish or diminish the indigenous community’s rights to the land and territory that serve as their source of life.
